Law Day Run, 5-15-10

In May, most of my family agreed to run the Law Day 5k. My sister, Robyn, and her husband are co-chairs of the event. From the get-go, there was trash talk between me and my oldest brother Alan about who would win the race. Below are all of the runners.

Alas, I am not much of a runner. I had started training but really slacked off as the race got close. Here you can see Alan's victorious finish. Fists in the air and everything.

Here I come. Actually, I did pretty well for myself. I finished around 31 minutes which for me- was fabulous. The kicker? On the far left bottom of the photograph is my 8 year old nephew, Parker, who had just beat me in the race. That was a bit humiliating. It was a fun race anyway, and I'll get Alan next year! Or at least Parker.

March/April

Man. I can't believe it's almost May. So far our spring has been really busy. Soccer and baseball are in full swing for Will, which keeps us busier than I had planned. Right now we're on day 5 of "screen-free" week, meaning we haven't watched television for going on five days. The kids haven't played video or computer games either. This means, that we are all so pooped by the end of the day that I couldn't even stay awake to watch TV even if I wanted to.

That being said, I find myself alone in the middle of the day with two sleeping children, and a chance to catch up on blogging.

First- an envelope Will addressed to us as a school assignment. He knows our address, but I thought it was super cute that Blaine Avenue translated as "Blan Abenoo." This kid seriously makes me smile. Usually.

Next, a few snaps of Lydia's 2nd birthday. It came and went in a hurry. She had two small parties. She pretty much wasn't aware of the concept, but she does love to blow out candles. Here are the pics of her blowing out the candles on her donut cake, and her real birthday cake.

One night I found Will attempting to brush his teeth while holding the toothbrush with his feet. Lydia wanted to be part of the good times but she didn't quite get the joke, and ended up brushing her feet with her toothbrush.

And last, Will and Lydia enjoying some oversized lollipops, courtesy of Aunt Shannie and Uncle Paul's trip to Disneyland.

100 days of school!

So, in celebrating 100 days of kindergarten, Will brought home the following list. He had to fill in the answers.

I wish I had 100: Wes (translation: Wii's)
I wish I could eat 100: Cats (hmm.....)
I wish I could see 100: Wes (Again, Wii's. Obsessed much?)
I wish I had 100: Dads (what? Moms are better)
But I'd never want 100: Poops (obviously)

And truly, if he was referring to 100 poops at the same time, I can say I wouldn't like that either.

December

Man, I love the holidays and man, I love when they are over. Back to 'healthy' eating (which for me just means not eating everything in sight all day long) and the much needed routine. Here are some pictures from Christmas and other December events. Please congratulate me on posting, as I haven't done so since August.

Love having Santa come to our family parties! Here's hoping they got what they wished for.

Early Christmas presents at Aunt Shannie's. Lydia had a poo-plosion and her slacker mother didn't have extra clothes.

This pretty much sums up our Christmas break. We were lazy. Jammies all day kind of lazy.

This is what you get when you say, "Lydia- show me your grumpy face!"

Will, irritated and embarrassed with his having to pose his Snuggie.

Well, he loved his Leapster. I swear, he's awake and playing 'Batman' but he looked asleep in all three photos I tried to take. He's obsessed. We'll have to place limits soon.

This was some Christmas morning fun. Both of them loved Lydia's present. Balls popping all over the place.

My Christmas gifts included warmth. Coat, hat, scarf.

Lydia found some glasses in her stocking, and despite the fact that she got some cool stuff- I think this was her favorite thing.
It was a fun month! I hope to blog with more frequency. My goal is once a month. That's not too bad eh ?

Huff Reunion etc.

We just got back from the Huff Reunion this past weekend. The weather was nice and cool, but not freezing. Good times! We camp in Huntington Canyon, which is near Price.

Sandy doing the 'washer toss,' which along with horseshoes, is a Huff family tradition.

Will and Blaze.

Lydia kissing grandma Janet.

Will with his uncle Lee, making bracelets.

Will, Cheyanne, Alyssa

And here is Will, who told me, "mom, take off my training wheels. I know how to ride a two-wheeler now." I kind of brushed him off, but he kept asking so Sandy took the wheels off tonight. Sandy tried to show him but Will wanted to do it alone. He was right! He does know how to do it. After an hour, he was mastering turns and getting really steady. What a big guy!

Lydia

As it turns out, I'm not much of a blogger. Oh well. Lydia turned one at the beginning of March and I neglected to blog it. She was sick on her big day, so only got to eat a cupcake without frosting (diarrhea and dairy aren't friends) but she loved it anyway. Now she's walking all over the place and just looking like a toddler instead of a baby. Where did the time go?!?!? We are so glad to have Lydia in our family. I have a hunch that she's going to be a goof, just like her brother. She's always cracking us up.

Lydia opening what turned out to be her very favorite toy in the world.
Home-girl can shove a lot of food in her mouth.

Totally loving the uninhibited cake eating. It didn't end up being too messy
with no frosting, plus she ate just about every crumb possible.

Damn wind.

The wind has been blowing really hard for a few days. The fence got tired of it.

"I'm gonna get their cruds."

Will had been introduced to 'trash talk.' He's recently learned to play Mario Kart on our Nintendo 64 (yes, I know we're technologically behind the times). This morning he was playing and just started saying, "I'm gonna get their cruds." And if he did get their cruds, he would say- "See, that's what I mean."

Will and his Dad tease a lot back and forth, and I just wanted to include a few samples of Will's greatest comebacks.

"You're a stinky shoe that smells like a stinky boot."
"Yeah, because you're a poopdog." (he learned poopdog from his Dad)

I'll add to the list later when I can remember some more, but just had to post before I forgot.

birthday and baby proofing

A happy belated birthday to Sandy (32!) among other things. He turned a year older on February 10th. Below he's sharing some birthday cake with Will. We think Sandy's a great part of our family, and we love him even though he's old!

Hanging out and getting cozy in bed. I don't know what's all over Will's face, but he always seems to have food on there somewhere.

So, I have kind of forgotten about baby proofing certain parts of the house. In our old house, our cupboards were old and didn't easily open. The drawers weren't on rollers so Will was never able to get into anything. Not so in this house. Lydia is forever emptying drawers. Her current favorites are the dishtowel and the foil/plastic wrap/baggies drawer. Very messy. Not to mention the pinched fingers. I guess I'll have to break down and buy some of those drawer locking things.

It's a good thing she's cute!

Will's Christmas program, yes I know it's almost February.

This is some random and belated blogging. Facebook has taken over my blogging ability. As it turns out, posting pictures is something of a chore and it only gets done in one location. I wanted to post some pictures of Will's Christmas program at school. It was really cute! It was over in about fifteen minutes, and none of the kids really knew words to the songs. We'd missed a few days of school due to a vacation and then an illness, so you can see Will below in the yellow shirt watching his friends to see how to do the 'choreography'.

Here is a closer shot of Will standing by some friends. I love the look on the face of the kid in the green sweater. That's Rex, Will's buddy. Except that it's been revealed that Rex already has a friend named Will, and it's caused some hurt feelings. Apparently four year olds can't have multiple friends with the same name. I understand, it would be confusing.
Last but not least, Lydia has learned to crawl up onto Will's bed. They were sitting one night for about fifteen minutes reading books together. I was glad to catch a pictures before the 'precious moment' ended. Luckily Will's bed is really close to the floor, because she falls off of it frequently.

Belated Halloween and other things.

I've been a slackish blogger. Here are the kiddo's Halloween costumes, and then a random bath tub pic, because it was pretty darn cute.

These are a few of Will's buddies, Ryan and Lars. They go to "bowling daycare" with him, and on this particular day they did a Halloween parade and trick or treated. Bowling daycare is where he hangs out while I bowl in my Chieftans Ladies League. Yes, I am that cool.

A somewhat shy Scooby Doo.

Lil' Punkin. Her head was really just too big for the hat. She gets that from me. Sorry Lydia, and just so you know you'll never look good in hats.

Will thought it was WAY cool to take a bath with his sister. He probably won't think so for very much longer, so I'll enjoy it now.

Rock On

We were invited to a costume party last night, and instructed to come as rock stars. Well, I think we're pretty awesome- so I had to post our pics. I may regret posting these later. Oh wait, I already regret posting them, but I've put in all this time so here they go.

Hey! Isn't that...Travis Barker from Blink 182? Wow, what a hottie.

Oh wait, it's just Sandy.

Whoah! You're probably wondering, when did Amy Winehouse hang out in Alison and Sandy's back yard?!?! No worries, it's not really Amy. Just me.

I realize I'm not emaciated enough to play the part. But hey, what are you gonna do? I did my best with my D.I. outfit and my itchy wig. Good times.

Snowy Sunday

I know it's not unheard of, but snow before Halloween really bugs me. I'd like a few more weeks of balmy fall. It didn't bug Will however, and he had a great time running around in it. I'm busy being jealous of friends who live in warmer climates.
